Breakout workshop sessions

Chris Proctor

Chris is Nacro’s Policy and Public Affairs Manager, having previously been the Head of Nacro’s Criminal Record Support Service. Chris has over 15 years’ criminal justice experience and is a non-practising solicitor with a criminal law background. Chris has delivered policy support, advice and training on safe and fair recruitment practices and criminal record disclosure, to a variety of organisations across all sectors.

Chris will be delivering two workshop sessions during the conference covering safe and fair recruitment in education

  • vetting and information gathering
  • risk assessing applicants with a criminal record

Emma Slaven

Emma joined Acas in 2013, following periods of employment in the private and public sectors. Emma has worked in a diverse range of roles and at different levels within Acas. This has allowed her to build up a comprehensive knowledge of employment law, best practice and tribunals. She also has experience of resolving issues and disputes in the workplace, working with employers and employees and their representatives.

Emma works alongside businesses and trade unions to help resolve any issues or disputes that they may be facing. She also specialises in mental health and has experience of helping organisations implemental mental health and wellbeing strategies. In addition, she has extensive experience of upskilling managers to develop their knowledge and confidence of effectively supporting mental health in the workplace.

Emma holds a BA Honours degree in Sociology and is an associate member of the CIPD. She is the designated Adviser for organisations in West Midlands.

Emma will be delivering a bite size ACAS session focusing on practical tips for supporting mental health in the workplace.

Jessica Hannan

Jessica is the Programme Manager for Wales at Education Support and has a passion for staff wellbeing. She has over 15 years of HR experience within education. Her background in education convinced her of the importance of the wellbeing for all education staff, leading her to change career and join Education Support, where she has helped schools develop strategies to improve the wellbeing of their staff and developed a programme of services to schools in Wales.

Jess will be delivering a workshop session on 'how to build and sustain your resilience whilst supporting the mental health and wellbeing of your team’. Jess will explore how leaders remain resilient  so they can focus on helping staff with their wellbeing and mental health.

Kevin Hartley

Kevin a Senior Education Consultant is part of the ongoing review team at the NSPCC ensuring the training they provide is up to date and meets the needs of busy safeguarding professionals. He has worked in secondary education for over 25 years and has been involved in safeguarding for most of that time.

A designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for over 12 years contibuting to the devlopment of policies and practice across a large multi-academy trust, he has delivered training at school and Trust level and whilst with the NSPCC has delivered traininmg to new and experienced DSLs.

Kevin will be delivering a safeguarding workshop session at our 2023 conference.
